This autumn, make way for the new by getting rid of those unwanted electrical items easily with WEEE Ireland. People can take part in special free WEEE collection events in their areas. All e-waste can be recycled at these events including unwanted TV’s, fridges, hair dryers, and everything in between with a plug or battery. People must check www.recylefree.ie for a full list of collection events in their areas.

If a collection event has not been scheduled yet for an area, those affected can also bring unwanted electrical items to their nearest civic amenity site for free.

If people are planning on updating any electrical items in their home this autumn, it is possible to bring unwanted electronic goods back to the same retailer. As consumers, people are entitled to bring their waste electrical equipment back to their electrical retailer when purchasing an item of a similar type.

Waste batteries can be brought back for recycling to any battery retailer that sells similar batteries. Household batteries such as AA, AAA, and button cell batteries can be brought back to local supermarkets, newsagents, or discount stores. Car batteries can be brought back to local garages or motor factors, and electric fence batteries can be brought to local agri-stores. All batteries can be recycled for free at the local civic amenity site. WEEE Ireland has distributed 100,000 battery-recycling boxes to shops around the country so look out for these special blue WEEE battery boxes.
