Michael Shannon of St John’s AC in Clare took a third Galway victory in a week in the Boston Scientific Charity race last Tuesday. Shannon won comfortably in 15.49, with Matt Bidwell of GCH second in 15.56 and Keith Lynch of BMOH third in 16.12
Caroline Whiriskey of Loughrea AC won the ladies’ section in 20.40 and is showing a return to her best form after a long lay off. Second home was Jacqueline O Donnell of GCH and third Aoife Carter.
The fourth annual Martin Egan Memorial 10k road race, held over a fast one-lap course in Gort on Saturday, was won by Kenny Rogers of St John’s AC.
The County Clare man took a clear win in a time of 33.04, with Conor Dolan second in 35.07 and Mike Cunningham third. In the ladies’ events, Grainne Ni Uallachain of GCH won well in a time of 41.09, from Amy O Grady in 44.29. Fellow Galway athlete Michelle Lynch took third in 46.01
Juvenile training recommences
Galway City Harriers AC juvenile training recommences at 10.30am on Sunday September 8 at the running track at NUIG grounds in Dangan.
Boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 18 are welcome to attend the training sessions, and new members are welcome.
A small charge will apply to cover each session cost.
