Old rivals Corinthians and Galwegians will square up in the Connacht Senior League in Crowley Park on Saturday (7pm ).
Both sides are currently joint top of the league with Galwegians enjoying a superior points difference, but the destination of this year’s trophy will be decided in the remaining two derby fixtures.
On paper Corinthians, having been promoted to the All Ireland League’s division 1b, should start as favourites against the division 2A side.
Both sides have enjoyed comfortable wins over Buccaneers, while games against Sligo have been closer.
After a 36-20 win over the Athlone outfit, Corinthians found Sligo tougher opponents and ground out a 29-21 win. The scorers for the Galway side were newcomer Ivan Venter, who touched down twice, while Colin Raftery and Colin Hegarty also grabbed a try each. Venter converted three of the tries and a penalty.
The scores for the home side were Paddy Pearson (two tries ) and Aaron Spring (one try ), while Bill Leahy secured the extra points in converting all three tries.
