The 900 city second level students who will receive their Junior Certificate results next Wednesday are being urged to celebrate in a sensible way.
For the eighth year running the local agencies which will provide a safe, drug and alcohol free-venue to mark the completion of their first State exam are appealing to them to attend the event.
All students who gets their results next week will receive a free invitation to the party at The Black Box. The party will kick off at 8.30pm and will continue until midnight. A key feature of this party is that it will be supervised by more than 50 experienced volunteers, drawn from the agencies involved. More than 700 students attended the party last year.
In an effort to combat “anti-social behaviour as young people socialise in unsuitable venues” the HSE says it, Jigsaw, Foróige, Galway City Partnership, GRETB, An Garda Síochána, Galway City Council, Youth Work Ireland, Western Regional Drugs Task force, the Lions Club, the Galway City Post Primary Schools and Clann Family Resource Centre came together in partnership to provide this safe social outlet for young people to celebrate.
“This is a great example of agencies working together in partnership for the common good,” explains Paul Tannian from the HSE West.
“It is only right and appropriate that these students get some recognition for sitting their first State examinations. Our goal is to make it a memorable and safe night for everybody involved.”
Young people who wish to attend the event must complete an application form available from their school, which includes a passport photograph and contact details for their parents. These forms will be returned to the school, stamped and the young people will then register their attendance on the night. Parents are reminded by the agencies that it is their responsibility to ensure the safe arrival and collection of their son or daughter from the event.
