Man charged with Glenamaddy murder

Gardaí are continuing to appeal to witnesses following the murder of a 20-year-old man in Glenamaddy in the early hours of Monday. A man has been charged with murder, and with assaulting another man, in the wake of the incident.

Patrick Doherty (45 ), Clooncon West, Glenamaddy, appeared before Roscommon District Court on Tuesday where he was charged with the murder of Frank Fahy (20 ) and of assault causing harm to Gerard Costello.

Det Sgt Michael O’Driscoll told the court he arrested Doherty at 2.26am on December 16. When he was later charged and cautioned Doherty said he had nothing to say to the charges.

Doherty was remanded in custody to appear before Harristown District Court tomorrow (Friday ) and was granted free legal aid at the request of his solicitor.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, which occurred outside Harte’s Corner House pub in The Square, Glenamaddy, at 1.30am on Monday, to contact Tuam Garda Station at (093 ) 70840.
