After securing a 2-2 draw on their debut in the Women’s National League, Galway now face their first away fixture against DLR Waves in Dublin.
Manager Nigel Keady is preparing for Sunday’s clash without Laura Carroll who has been forced out with a knee injury, while her replacement in that season opener, Emma Treanmor, was also forced off and remains doubtful.
However good news for the Galway team is that Ruth Fahy has been cleared to play after the club received the international transfer certificate from the Football Federation Australia, clearing her transfer from South Melbourne to Galway.
This will be a big boost for the ladies as they head into the unknown.
Keady says: “After the excitement of our first game in the league, we are now need to back that up and ensure we can bring our match-day performance on the road. This will be another new experience, but I believe that Sunday’s game will give us the confidence to know we should fear no opposition.”
Keady believes there is more to come from his Galway side following last weekend’s draw.
“Before the game we would definitely have taken a draw. However, although we were glad to get a draw, there was a feeling that perhaps we left a further two points after us. Although we controlled possession for long periods, at times we lacked penetration. This is something we have set about rectifying in training this week.”
The match kicks off on Sunday at 2pm Jackson Park, Glenamuck Road, Kilternan, Co Dublin.
