First Galwayman to climb Everest to talk at Jigsaw Galway

The first Galwayman to summit Mount Everest, Peter O’Connell, is giving a public lecture on his successful journey of the world’s highest mountain this evening from 7pm to 8pm in the Jigsaw Galway building on Fairgreen Rd.

This lecture is part of Jigsaw Galway’s information evening on its upcoming ‘Trek The Tochár’ Challenge, which is a one day fundraising trek along the ancient Tochár Phadraig way from Ballintubber Abbey to Croagh Patrick in Co Mayo, taking place on Saturday August 31.

“We are so honoured and delighted that Peter is going to give this lecture on his success on Mount Everest and that he is supporting our fundraising ‘Trek the Tòchar’ walk,” said Justin McDermott of Jigsaw Galway. “This is a free event and is open to anyone who is interested in Peter’s amazing achievement in climbing Mount Everest, or indeed anyone who may be interested in joining us on our trek along the Tòchar Phádraig.”

The event is free to the public and doors open from 6.30pm. For more information contact Justin on (091 ) 549 252. There will also be an opportunity on the day for people to register for the upcoming ‘Trek The Tochár’ walk with Jigsaw. People can sign up by visiting www.jigsaw.ie/trekthetochar or call Jigsaw for more information. There is also the chance to register as a team of friends, family members, or colleagues to take part in the challenge.

“We would love individuals, families, groups of friends, colleagues or club mates to join with us and Peter on our ‘Trek the Tochár’ challenge,” McDermott continued. “The Tochár Phadraig pilgrim way is such an amazing walk and is often referred to as the ‘Irish Camino’. We are so excited about this trek and are hoping to bring a great group of people who will help us raise awareness and vital funds for the work we do with young people, their mental health and wellbeing in Galway.”
