Irish shine at Macron Cup

The Republic of Ireland claimed this year's u-15 elite trophy at the Macron Galway Cup held last week.

The Irish side defeated Macabbi Haifa from Israel in the final, while St Kevin's Boys from Dublin captured the plate final.

In this ninth annual Macron Galway Cup at Drom Soccer Park, there was also another victory for the Irish when district league side Waterford pipped top English side Leeds United in the u-13 elite event.

And in the inaugural u-19 Macron Cup, Limerick FC, Derry City, Salthill Devon and Cork City took part, with Limerick overcoming Cork City 3-0 in the final.

The cup, which has become a recruitment event for managers, boasted 50 teams from six countries in five sections.
