Connacht Rugby player George Naoupu is joining the coaching staff of Galwegians RFC, taking over as head coach of the women's squad.
The No 8 will join fellow New Zealander Beth Mallard, a former Black Fern international and Connacht player, in coaching the women's squad which last year captured the national cup.
Naoupu said it was an exciting time for women's rugby.
"I'm thrilled to be involved with the Galwegians Rugby Club and grateful for the opportunity to coach the women's team. The development and promotion of female rugby players is important for the game to grow here in Ireland alongside the men’s competitions, so I'm pleased to be part of that resurgence. "
Naoupu will make his first appearance as coach this evening when the club will host a Women’s Rugby Open Night, an event open to all levels, including beginners. Galwegians RFC will also begin underage training sessions from September.
