Galway WFC open their first campaign in the Bus Eireann Women's National League in less than two weeks when they host Wexford Youths at Eamonn Deacy Park.
The newly-formed club, which will play alongside teams such as Raheny, Peamount, Shamrock Rovers, Cork, and Castlebar Celtic in the women's league, is currently finalising its squad ahead of its August 25 opener.
And, it is in a race against time to sign former South Melbourne WFC star Ruth Fahy who returned home recently to train with the new Galway team.
According to the club, Galway WFC is required to apply to the FAI for clearance before the national body can contact the Football Federation Australia to request an international transfer certificate.
Although the club is unsure how long this process will take, officials are hopeful the former Irish midfielder will be clear before the league kicks off.
Under manager Nigel Keady, Galway will face an experienced outfit in their opening fixture. However hopes are high Galway will make a positive start, while also attracting a growing support at Deacy Park.
Club chairman Stephen Moran describes the response from the public in Galway as "overwhelming" since it was announced that Galway WFC would take part in the national league.
" The club has received the full support of the Galway FA and the FAI which will see regular senior women’s soccer on show in Eamonn Deacy Park for the first time.
"I would like to thank all those companies who have come forward to support us, including Glenman Corporation which has come on board as associate sponsor, along with a number of match and player sponsors."
However the club is still looking for a main sponsor and Moran is urging companies to consider the new women's club.
" The national exposure that a sponsor will receive along with local goodwill should be attractive to a number of companies.
"Finally I would like to call on the sporting public of Galway to come out in force to cheer on the Galway women."
Season tickets are available in Jaycee and O’Brien’s newsagents. All accompanied children will be admitted free to all home matches. Gates will open at 1pm and a full pre-match entertainment programme is planned before kick off against Wexford Youths at 2pm.
