The Monivea Fair takes place on the streets of the village from Friday August 23 to Sunday August 25.
On Friday, August 23, there will be Twilight Mass at 9pm in Ffrench’s Mausoleum in the Monivea Woods.
The following day, at 10am the Monivea/Abbey underage football tournament will take place in Monivea GAA Grounds. On Sunday, the fair will be take place, starting at 11am with entries being taken for poultry, pets, and sheep classes.
The programme includes the Old Time Sheep Show and Fair at 1pm, the vintage display and market stalls taking place all day long, the Dog Show at 2pm with entries being taken on the day from 1pm, the Tractor Building Competition and threshing demonstrations at 2pm and 4pm, the Tug of War with national teams of both ladies and gents competing in various weight classes at 2pm.
There will also be sheaf throwing, archery and cube challenge for all ages. The Bonny Baby competition takes place in Fr Sammon Hall at 2.30pm with three categories for ages 0 to one year, one to two years, and two to three years (entries will be taken from 2pm onwards ). At 4pm there will be a penalty shoot-out with a difference for people to try their football skills.
Competitions will be taking place all day from 2pm for all the family to try. There will be duck racing, guess the weight of the animal, and a take-me-home-lamb competition. A draw for a fabulous 42 inch TV on display at the fair will take place at the end of the day.
New events this year include the eagle demonstration on the Greens and the Super Draw Winner Takes all with lots of prizes to be won on the day.
