The music of the ancient Irish harp

EARLY IRISH songs and music will be performed on the harp, Ireland’s national emblem and instrument, at a special concert in Galway city next week.

The Historical Harp Society of Ireland is celebrating its 10th anniversary with an Irish tour that takes in the Nuns Island Theatre on Thursday August 22 at 8pm.

Leading Irish harpist Siobhán Armstrong; the USA’s foremost Irish harpist Ann Heymann; Connemara traditional singer Áine Ní Dhroighneáin; and uilleann piper Ronan Browne will perform some of the earliest known songs in Irish.

Armstrong and Heymann will perform on ornamented replicas of the Trinity College/Brian Boru harp, strung in brass and 18-carat gold strings.

Tickets are €15/10 and available on the door. For more information and bookings contact 087- 6332891.
