Renault, well-known supporter of cycling internationally, has become the new sponsor of the National Breast Cancer Research Institute’s annual Into the West Cycle Challenge.
Now renamed the Renault Into the West Cycle Challenge, the popular cycling event which is now in its 19th year sees participants cycle from Mullingar to Galway and back, a 300km round trip over two days. This year’s cycle will take place on September 7 and 8.
Speaking at the launch, Renault Ireland’s county operations manager, Patrick Magee, said: “It is fantastic to see two of our dealerships team up to help support the National Breast Cancer Research Institute’s Into the West Cycle Challenge. Thanks to Bradley Renault in Galway and to O’Brien’s in Mullingar for their work with this great charity and we hope the event is a big success and raises much needed funds for the NBCRI”.
To date the event has raised almost €1million for the NBCRI research team based at NUI Galway. Leaders in the field of breast cancer research, the institute carries out ethical research into the biology of breast cancer to find the causes and factors that influence the disease in order to develop effective treatments and medication to combat it.
Galway man Robert Bradley says: “As a family business Bradley Renault is delighted to be associated with such a great event and an even greater cause. It’ll be a great weekend event and I’m looking forward to participating myself.”
The Renault into the West Cycle Challenge has grown from strength to strength and this year 250 cyclists are expected to take part.
The entry fee is €60 and each participant commits to raising a minimum sponsorship of €200 for the National Breast Cancer Research Institute (NBCRI ). Participants will be provided with hotel B&B plus evening dinner in the Connacht Hotel, Galway. The closing date for entries is September 3 and the first 150 entrants will receive a commemorative pro cycling jersey.
