BUTOH IS many things. It can be dance, performance, or movement. It involves grotesque imagery and taboo topics, and is traditionally performed in white body makeup.
Galway audiences will have a chance to experience this Japanese artform at an event being presented by The Kitchen Collective in association with Galway Dance Project.
The show takes place in The Shed, Centre Pier, Galway Harbour, tomorrow at 6pm with dancers Judith Bernhardt, Elise Brown, Bernie Divilly, Elodie Rien, and Kathryn Crowley.
Butoh originated in Japan in the 1950s, inspired by German expressionism and the legacy of the Atomic bomb attacks in 1945.
Admission is free and all are welcome to the show. See www.galwaydanceproject.com
