The popular Cava Spanish restaurant and tapas bar, which closed earlier this year, will reopen at a new premises in Middle Street next month.
The restaurant, owned by restaurateurs JP Mc Mahon and Drigin Gaffey of Aniar restaurant and Eat Gastropub, will open under the name Cava Bodega in early September on Middle Street, opposite Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop on the site previously occupied by Mustard. The Cava team is currently completing extensive renovations at the premises for a whole new look.
“There was overwhelming support for Cava when we closed and a persistent demand for a reopening, it was just a matter of finding the right location,” said JP McMahon.
“Our food will focus on tapas and shared eating. Each dish will be based on Spanish and Moorish cuisine but through the lens of local food farmers, producers, and suppliers. We will continue to source and import chosen meats and cheeses direct from Spain.”
Fans of Cava will be delighted to know many of the old favourites will reappear on the new Cava Bodega menu such as patatas bravas, scallops with black pudding, pork belly, and calamares.
“The lively and casual atmosphere in Cava was very unique,” added Drigin Gaffey. “It offered diners a relaxed and social atmosphere for groups but it was also intimate enough for cosy meals for two. We are recreating this feeling in Middle Street but the style will be unique to the space.”
