Summer Music in Galway festival

The Summer Music in Galway school and festival returns on Monday August 5 with classical concerts in both the city and county.

The concerts take place in Claregalway Castle, St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church, and the Raheen Woods Hotel in Athenry and will feature Galway Youth Orchestra.

The festival starts at 2.30pm in Claregalway castle with music by Mozart and Sibelius, followed at 4.30pm by tours of the castle and a family picnic barbecue. At 8.30pm there will be the ‘Midsummer in the Castle’ concert featuring Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony No 6.

On August 7 at 8pm, the Raheen Woods Hotel will host a concert, and on Thursday 8 Mozart’s Requiem and the premiere of a recently discovered piece by Handel will be performed by Mark Keane's Tribal Chamber Choir. The Summer Music Symphony Orchestra will also perform that day, in St Nicholas’ at 8pm.

Family opera The Green Children will be performed in Claregalway Castle on Friday 9 at 8pm and the final concerts will be on Saturday in the Castle at 2.30pm and 8pm.
