Too much time has passed and too many accidents have occurred on the Coolough Road so the Galway City Council must proceed immediately with a Compulsory Purchase Order according to PD Cllr Terry O’Flaherty.
In Last week’s Galway Advertiser, the Galway City Council said in relation to the Coolough Road, that delays on certain improvement works are “due to the fact that negotiations with the land owner have been so far unsuccessful”. As a result the issue may have to go through a Compulsory Purchase Order.
In response, Cllr O’Flaherty said: “It is obvious the CPO process has not commenced. There has been 16 accidents on this roadway since last August. How long must the residents wait for the council to make up their minds to start this process?”
Cllr O’Flaherty tabled a notice of motion at a previous city council meeting - and agreed by the councillors - for the land to be purchased by agreement or by CPO.
“The time span for the purchase by agreement was for one month only this went on much longer than the agreed time,” she said. “I do not want the same situation to recur with this matter.”
