The Olllam adventures in sound

IMAGINE THE Bothy Band plugged into some celestial ‘Lucy In The Sky with Diamonds’ vibe and you might get a sense of the creativeness of The Olllam.”

So said TradConnect about the Irish trio, who take their name from the ollam bards of Irish folklore, and who play Monroe’s Live tomorrow at 9pm.

The band - Belfast-born uilleann piper John McSherry, a founder member of Lúnasa, along with Detroit jazz musicians and multi-instrumentalists Tyler Duncan and Michael Shimmin.

Expect a multiplicity of styles, trance-like melodies, instrumental virtuosity, post-rock ambience, and shades of Radiohead, Planxty, and Explosions in the Sky.

Tickets are €5 and available on the door or through www.monroes.ie and 091 - 583397.
