New show from ThereisBear! Theatre

BALLYKILLDOWNA, A play by the award-winning Galway poet Shaun Leonard, is being staged by ThereisBear! Theatre as part of the Galway Fringe Festival.

Ballykilldowna is set in small-town Ireland and centres on three friends struggling with love and loss.

Desmond’s granny has died leaving him to battle with Cystic Fibrosis. He is also in love with his best friend Megan, who already has a boyfriend, Jason.

Des needs to tell her how he feels, but Megan and Jason are driven apart by jealousy, selfishness, and tragedy as Jason slips into alcoholism and brutishness. Will the three ever say what needs to be said?

Shaun Leonard was the 2012 Cúirt Festival Poetry Grandslam winner, and recipient of the NUIG Societies’ Bursary for his performance poetry. He also won the Jerome Hynes One Act Play Series’ Audience’s Choice Award for Cathleen Ní Houlihaun II.
