A feast of intercounty hurling for u-16s takes place on Saturday in Athenry’s Kenny Park and Ballyloughnane, home of Liam Mellows GAA club.
Organised by Connnacht GAA, the tournament, which has been held for many years, was renamed in honour of Galway and Clare hurling legend Niall McInerney who passed away in November 2004.
Teams from Westmeath will also take part in this year’s blitz which involves more than 200 young hurlers.
The event is a valuable preparation for the national u-16 hurling blitzs which take place in late August each year.
