Walking The Camino

MARTIN SHEEN called it a “brilliant documentary” and it has been showered with awards at leading films festivals across the USA.

It is Walking The Camino, a documentary on Spain’s famed 500 mile Camino de Santiago Trail which thousands of people walk every year. It will be screened this Saturday at 2pm in the Cinemobile, outside the Town Hall Theatre, as part of the Galway Film Fleadh.

Director Lydia B Smith and her team spent six weeks conducting walk-and-talk and stationary interviews with walkers on the Camino. In addition, each pilgrim recorded hours of their own video-diaries during moments of introspection on the trail or inside the albergues (special pilgrim hostels ). It all combines to give an intimate insight into the minds of the participants.

Walking The Camino won the Audience Favourite Award from the Palm Springs Film Festival; Best Documentary at both the Rainier Independent Film Festival and the Festival Cine y TV Camino de Santiago; and Outstanding Achievement in Documentary Filmmaking at the Newport Beach Film Festival.

Tickets are available from the Town Hall on 091 - 569777 and www.tht.ie See also www.CaminoDocumentary.org
