Horslips guitarist for Monroe’s Live

WHEN JOHNNY Fean reinterpreted the trad tune ‘O’Neill’s March’ on the electric guitar, he created one of the greatest Irish hard rock riffs of all time.

The riff became the core of ‘Dearg Doom’ one of the best songs by Horslips, who revolutionised Irish trad by infusing it with rock, ska, and prog in the 1970s. The riff would later be used by Larry Mullen for his ‘Put ‘Em Under Pressure’ track for Ireland’s 1990 World Cup campaign.

Johnny Fean and his band, which includes Steve Travers of the Miami Showband, play Monroe’s Live this Sunday at 9pm. On the night expect to hear Horslips classics as well as blues standards, to early R’n’B hits.

Tickets are €10 and available on the door or through www.monroes.ie and 091 - 583397.
