GALWAY FANS of Irish trad as well as of singer-songwriter Brian Kennedy, will be looking forward to the Galway Arts Festival line-up in Monroe’s this month.
On Thursday July 18, Brian Kennedy plays. He originally came to prominence as a member of Van Morrison’s band, featuring prominently on 1995’s Days Like This. He has since enjoyed a successful solo career, scoring hits like ‘Life, Love and Happiness’ and ‘Put the Message in the Box’. He is also a judge on RTÉ’s The Voice of Ireland.
Dónal Lunny, a titan of trad/folk since his days in Planxty, will be joined by Pádraig Rynne and Sylvain Barou, to play on Wednesday 24. The Irish Times has described their collaborations as producing “moments of rare beauty”.
Donegal folk/roots trio The Henry Girls will take to the stage on Thursday 25. Renowned for their vocal harmonies, the sisters are fast gaining an international reputation.
Monroe’s Live will also host three festival ‘Trad Lunchtimes’ on July 18, 19, and 20 at 1pm. The shows will feature Niall Vallely, Seán Óg Graham, Frankie Lane, Paul Kelly, Paul O’Shaughnessy, and Harry Bradley.
