A 25-year-old city man is to be sent forward for trial charged with burglary offences, following his appearance before Galway District Court this week.
Jonathan Harlowe, 128 Glen Dara, Rahoon, is charged with burglary at a house in Rahoon on December 13 last year and with burglary at another house in Glen Dara, Rahoon, on December 7 last.
He is charged with escaping from Garda custody at Glenanail Drive, Riverside, on January 11 last and with obstructing Garda Noel Sweeney on that date while also being in possession of two screwdrivers, a torch and a reversible jacket with the intention of using the items in the course of a burglary.
Harlowe is further charged with assaulting Garda Sweeney on the same date and with having a quantity of heroin in his possession on the same date also.
The accused if further charged with being found in possession of heroin in a room at the Travelodge, Tuam Road, Galway, on December 16 last year.
Inspector Mick Coppinger told the court the DPP had directed the accused be sent forward for trial to the Circuit Criminal Court in relation to the burglary charges. He asked the court to remand Harlowe in custody on the charges as a book of evidence would have to be prepared.
Defence solicitor Valerie Corcoran said her client was serving a sentence at present in relation to other matters.
Judge Mary Fahy remanded Harlowe in custody to appear before Harristown District Court on August 8 next for service of a book of evidence.
