The Strypes to play festival Big Top

The Strypes, the Cavan blues and r’n’b band who have won the admiration of Dave Grohl and Elton John, will play the Galway Arts Festival Big Top next month.

The band will join Grizzly Bear at the Festival Big Top on Friday July 19 for this ‘Galway Arts Festival and Róisín Dubh presents...’ show.

The Strypes - Ross Farrelly (lead vocals/harmonica ), Josh McClorey (lead guitar/vocals ), Pete O’Hanlon (bass guitar/harmonica ), and Evan Walsh (drums ) - are all aged between 15 and 18 and play blues, rock’n’roll, and sixties r’n’b with a passion and panache that belies their youth.

The band cite Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Howlin’ Wolf, Little Walter, Slim Harpo, Dr Feelgood, The Yardbirds, Rolling Stones, and The Animals as their inspirations.

The Cavan quartet have won the praise of British blues-rock legend Jeff Beck and modfather Paul Weller. Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl described The Strypes as “unbelievable”, while Elton John said: “They have a knowledge of R&B and blues at 16 years of age that I’ve only amassed in my 65 years.”

The band’s debut single ‘Blue Collar Jane’ went to No 1 in the iTunes blues chart and their latest single ‘Hometown Girls’ is currently available to download. The Strypes are working on their debut album with Chris Thomas who has produced albums by Roxy Music, the Sex Pistols, and Pulp.

Tickets are on sale from galwayartsfestival.com, roisindubh.net, the Festival Box Office, Galway Tourist Office, Forster Street (091 - 566577 ), and ticketmaster.ie
