Scoreless opening half proves costly for Galway camogie

Kilkenny survived a late rally from the Galway ladies to clinch a 1-10 to 1-8 victory in the opening round of the All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship last Saturday.

The Cats dominated the early stages, going in at half time six points clear with Galway scoreless.

There were strong performances from many on the Galway side. All-star Anne Marie Hayes chipped in with a goal and a point and Sarsfields' Niamh McGrath on target with five points from frees and one from play. In the end however, Kilkenny edged victory by a slender two-point margin in a game they never looked like losing.
