THE KING’S HEAD pub will host a series of free concerts of Irish trad next week, each starting at 3pm, as part of the Galway Sessions festival.
The gigs kick off with American duo Colm Gannon and Jesse Smith on Monday June 17. Colm has played and toured in Riverdance and Dervish. Jesse has played with Danu and collaborated on numerous recordings with Sharon Shannon, Alan Kelly, and Enda Scahill.
Lunasa’s Kevin Crawford and Cillian Vallely play on Tuesday 18. Birmingham born Kevin Crawford is a leading trad flute player while Cillian Vallely is held in great esteem for his abilities on the whistle and uilleann pipes.
Londoner John Blake and Dubliner Emmet Gill play on Wednesday 19. John is admired for his abilities on flute, guitar and piano, while piper Emmet cites Willie Clancy, Tommy Reck, and Seamus Ennis as his inspirations.
The gigs conclude with Corrandulla’s Noreen Gavin-O’Sullivan and Seán Gavin on Friday 21. Noreen plays whistle, while Seán plays accordion.
