No decision taken on Steiner patronage

In last week’s edition, the article ‘Gaelscoil Mhic Amhlaigh building to house new Steiner school’, in relation to a new primary school being established in Knocknacarra in 2014, stated that the new school being established will be under Steiner patronage.

However the Department of Education has pointed out that this is not the case. The patronage process for all new primary schools being established in 2014 is currently being run. This means prospective patrons are determining parental demand for their patronage model. Based on the results, individual patrons may apply to the Department to run the new schools.

Applications will be assessed by the Department first and then by the New Schools Establishment Group. That group will make a recommendation to the Minister with whom the final decision on patronage rests. The Minister's decision will be announced later this year.

In addition, no decision at all has been taken as to how the new school will be accommodated
