Man pleads guilty to €101,000 robbery at city jewellers

A man has pleaded guilty to a charge of robbery at a Galway city centre jewellers, an incident which involved the theft of watches valued at more than €101,000 and a number of staff put in fear.

At a sitting of Galway Circuit Criminal Court on Tuesday, Gavin Carabini (29 ) with an address given as 18 Our Lady’s Road, Maryland, Dublin 8, was brought before Judge Keenan Johnson for arraignment in relation to robbery. When the charge was put to him, Carabini pleaded guilty to robbing 28 Rolex and 18 Cartier watches, with a total value of €101,261, using force and putting a number of staff in fear, at Hartmann Jeweller, 29 William Street, on November 28, 2008.

Judge Johnson then remanded Carabini in custody to appear in court again on July 5 next for sentencing.
