Galway City Museum launches major ceramics and glass exhibition

A ceramics and glass exhibition will be officially launched at the Galway City Museum tomorrow, Friday June 7, by Ms Catherine Marshall of the Irish American Cultural Institute.

The exhibition which features an international selection of the IACI’s O’Malley Collection will run throughout this summer at Galway City Museum and admission is free.

This is a major new exhibition featuring a fine selection of ceramics and glass from all over the world. The collection was developed by artist Helen Hooker O’Malley with her husband Ernie O’Malley and is on loan from the University of Limerick.

Among the earliest dated objects on display is a unique equestrian piece from China representing the Tang Dynasty of the seventh century. The exhibition also features a 17th century Korean piece, and many 20th century European examples from Denmark, England, France, Greece, Ireland, Poland, Sweden, as well as the United States.

The launch will take place at 6pm in the museum foyer.
