Custody remand for man in connection with drugs seizure

A man who was arrested by gardai and brought before a special court sitting last Saturday in connection with the seizure of a quantity of cocaine, has been remanded in custody following his appearance before Galway District Court this week.

Patrick McGahan (40 ), 4 Marsden Terrace, Belfast, Co. Antrim, is charged with having cocaine in his possession at Dublin Road, Oranmore, on July 25 last and with having the cocaine for sale or supply to another on the same date.

He is further charged with having Ecstasy tablets in his possession and with having the drugs for sale or supply to another on the same date also. McGahan is also charged with obstructing Garda David Foley on the same occasion.

In reply to Judge Mary Fahy, Inspector Mick Coppinger said the estimated street value of drugs seized by Gagdai was €4,500. He said the accused had been held in custody since his court appearance last Saturday because he had no address in this jurisdiction.

The inspector said the State had no objection to bail provided an independent €5,000 cash surety was lodged in court.

Remanding McGahan in custody to appear before Harristown District Court this Friday, August 1, Judge Mary Fahy said he could lodge a bail application there.
