Galway senior football manager Alan Mulholland is making a passionate plea to the GAA supporters in the county to come out in force to support their team in the highly-anticipated clash against Mayo at Pearse Stadium on Sunday (4pm ).
“The lads on the panel have worked really hard over the past seven or eight months with a big focus on this game,” he says. “ Mayo are a very good side and they were in the All-Ireland final last year.
“We are the underdogs and understandably so, but, we intend to go out and have a real cut off them.”
Mayo are expected to travel in big numbers, he says, and all the Galway support will be greatly appreciated.
“ Most people don’t expect there to be too much between the sides at the finish, and in a tight game, some really loud, energetic and boisterous Galway support from the stand and terraces can be a big boost to the players. All of the players on the senior panel want to do well for their county and their team, and a win on Sunday would be fantastic for them and for the county itself.”
Mulholland is asking supporters from every player’s respective club to make the effort to get to Pearse Stadium.
“The winners on Sunday will take an awful lot from the game and will be in a good place heading for a Connacht semi-final. The more Galway supporters in Pearse Stadium on Sunday cheering the lads on the better.
“We know it may not ideal for everyone to get to Pearse Stadium, but we are really asking for the Galway fans to come out and give us a shout. We are intent on producing a top quality winning performance and the more supporters we have there to help us do that, the better.”
