Concerns over delays at Oranmore railway crossing

The length of time commuters must wait when the railway crossing at Oranmore is closed is becoming a traffic hazard, according to a local councillor.

Independent county councillor Jim Cuddy said that the gates remain closed for such a length of time that it is causing traffic to “back up to the roundabout at the Maldron Hotel”.

While acknowledging that the gates are closed for safety reasons, he has written to the regional manager of Iarnród Éireann regarding “extended delays”.

“The delays are quite significant,” said Cllr Cuddy. “I have asked for an explanation of why the crossing is closed for so long and I have asked for a reply as soon as possible.”
