In with the new

Department stores can be a Mecca of labels, and thankfully close to home we have a few of these to spoil us. And what makes me very excited is that two of my favourite labels, Sandro and Maje, are launching at Brown Thomas Galway. So what better way to check out what these labels will offer, than to do a little photoshoot and style up some looks to inspire your summer wardrobe.

In love with the softer shade

Blue is a great colour for wedding season, especially pastel shades which are synonymous with summer (but do check with the bride as to the colour of the bridesmaid’s dresses ). Pastels are easy to wear and can be mixed with prints and textures to add more depth. Sandro exceeds expectations with pastels this season, and by adding feminine details like pleats a simple dress is transformed into a versatile piece which will also take you to ladies’ day at the races. Add a short jacket, not only to keep you warm but to make the look more casual (blue jacket, €295 and dress €218 both from Sandro at Brown Thomas ).

Keeping with softer colours, Maje comes to the fore with muted coral, a colour I have just introduced to my wardrobe. Coral is at an all time peak of the fashion scales this year, especially with accessories, and so there are many ways to introduce it to your existing wardrobe. I kind of fell in love with Maje’s use of leather in tops, paired with cropped trousers which look stylish with a nude pair of heels. This is a lovely office look for summer, and can be worn as separates or as a complete outfit (cropped trousers, €165 and leather top, €285 both from Maje at Brown Thomas ).

Adding the edge

I love a classic look, but from time to time I like to get edgy. On the flipside of the ultra feminine look, Sandro know how to work this cooler, more relaxed, style. With sports luxe a very popular trend for spring summer, the tapered style trouser with white stripe is a key piece for a trendy wardrobe, and is a really flattering shape too. Without making the look too complicated, add a short sleeved metallic top to complete the outfit. And no such outfit is complete with a fabulous pair of shoes, a key investment which will last this season and beyond (black and white trousers, €165; metallic top, €175 and shoes €245, all from Sandro as above ).

To take you onto the dance floor, you cannot go wrong with a little sparkle. Sequins and heavy detailing need to be the statement of your outfit, so wear with jeans or dark coloured trousers so the details pop. I love to wear blue and navy as alternatives to black on nights out, and with a longer sleeve you can get away with a lighter jacket (blue sequinned top, €265, light blue jeans, €140 and shoes, €265 from Maje ).

These two super labels are now available at Brown Thomas Galway, so pop in and style up your favourite looks for summer.
