A Co Galway family will travel across 12 European countries in a 20-year-old landrover to raise funds for the Galway Hospice.
The Dooleys, comprising Séamus and Maureen and their three young children, Cormac, 12, Kirby, 10, and Saoirse, nine from Craughwell, will clock up more than 6,000km in aid of the Renmore based facility.
The money raised will go to its home and daycare services. Galway Hospice Home Care team made 5,345 “Hospice at Home” visits and 1,170 attendances were recorded at its daycare centre last year. The Dooleys are carrying out the challenge at their own expense.
Séamus rebuilt the Landrover specifically for the trip over the past two years. The journey will take in 12 countries and cross the Swiss Alps and the Pyrenees. The trip will be completed in three weeks.
The Dooleys will not only face a challenge in which some of the routes will be “off road” but will also complete the trip as a family unit with the children “surviving” without play stations, televisions and computers.
The family will camp for the three weeks and will update their blog daily with photos, comments and videos.
