One man was being treated for serious injuries in Portiuncula Hospital yesterday following an early morning crash near the town.
The incident happened at 6.30am yesterday when a van carrying four men crashed into a wall on the Ferry Hill side of Portumna Bridge. Gardaí, ambulance personnel, and Portumna fire services attended the scene of the accident, and the four occupants of the van were brought to Portiuncula Hospital. While three people were uninjured the fourth suffered serious head injuries in the collision.
No other vehicle was involved in the collision.
Part of the N65 was closed following the incident to allow for a forensic collision examination. The road reopened at around 12 noon yesterday.
Gardaí have launched an investigation into the crash and are asking witnesses to contact Loughrea Garda station at 091 842877.
