Galway minors beat Mayo

Galway Ladies will hoping they have set the trend for the county in this year’s championships with a victory over neighbours Mayo to win the minor title.

It proved an epic battle, but it was Galway’s timely goals that made the difference in the end, winning by 4-16 to 0-16.

Played at Charlestown, Mayo took an early lead through Sarah Rowe, but a goal by Nicola Ward three minutes later opened a gap that Mayo were never able to close.

Both teams traded score for score for most of the game, but the goals at vital times in each half were the difference.

Galway were captained by Megan Heneghan, while Louise Ward won the Player of the Match award.
