The Active in Age Oranmore group have been running the four-day Bealtaine Festival, celebrating creativity of Oranmore’s older residents, from May 7 - May 10.
Respond Housing Association, which is a member and organiser with Active in Age Oranmore, have hosted the activities in Árd na Mara, Oranmore, in the Blue Room.
There have been a variety of workshops to choose from; banner making, textile craft demonstrations, creative cards, window box construction, digital photography, dance, and music, etc. For details Contact Fiona Blaney, Respond, (0818 357901 ); or Lily Considine, Active in Age, Oranmore (Tel. 087- 6184022 )
Respond is also organising an Art Exhibition in Loughrea. Residents and neighbouring St Laurence Fields estate Art Group, have been working over the last few months on creating a collection of art for display. Many of the paintings for display have been inspired by nature.
The exhibition will take place in Respond, Meadowbrook Court Community Building during May, and will reflect on the Bealtaine theme of “Grow Happy”. The residents of both estates will be inviting its older neighbours to make it a truly inter-generational celebration.
Both events have been made possible by funding from the Galway County Council Community Support Grant.
Respond is Ireland’s leading housing association, established in 1982. It provides housing for almost 20,000 residents around Ireland. The organisation seeks to create a positive future for people by alleviating poverty and creating vibrant, socially integrated, communities.
