Starting this week, dogs are forbidden from Galway city beaches or their waters between 9am and 8pm during the months of May, June, July, August, and September.
Before 9am and after 8pm from May to September, dogs are permitted provided they are on a leash and are not causing danger or nuisance. This follows a bye-law adopted in 2008 by the Galway City Council and relates solely to the beaches of Salthill, Grattan Road, Ballyloughane, and Silverstrand and to their waters.
City Hall is calling on dog-owners to take responsibility for their dogs and to clean-up after them. The Dog Control Bye-Law can be viewed online at www.galwaycity.ie/AllServices/Environment/Publications
