Damien Dempsey will play Galway Arts Festival Big Top in a double bill with Glen Hansard on Thursday July 25.
The award winning Donaghmede singer-songwriter cites Luke Kelly, Ronnie Drew, Bob Marley, Elvis Presley, and Christy Moore as his inspirations. He has played support to Bob Dylan, Morrissey, and U2.
Dempsey released his sixth studio album last year, Almighty Love, produced by long term collaborator John Reynolds. Goldenplec described Almighty Love as, “a document of an honest spiritual journey through the world and the self.” The Sunday Times said: “In recession-ravaged Ireland, the folk singer Damien Dempsey is a real working class hero.”
Dempsey made his acting debut in 2011 in the Irish feature film Between The Canals. His song ‘Sing All Your Cares Away’ was featured in the BAFTA Award winning film Tyrannosaur, and he has songs in two upcoming Irish films Stalker and King of the Travellers.
