Water metering surveys to begin in the county next week
Survey work for the Irish Water metering is to begin in some areas of the county next week.
Director of Services at Galway County Council, Jim Cullen, told a meeting on Monday that council employees will have identification with them when they begin conducting surveys in the county next week. He said that the surveys will being in Barna, followed by areas in the east such as Kinvara, and will be rolled out countywide over seven to 12 months.
Colours Fringe Festival seeks artists and volunteers
The organisers of the fourth Colours Fringe Festival are seeking local artists and volunteers to participate.

Galway’s forgotten distilleries
Galway was once home to several whiskey distilleries in the 19th-century, including Burke’s Distillery, where Jury’s Inn is now, and Persse’s Distillery in Nuns Island.
These distilleries will be the subject of a public lecture in the Galway City Museum this Saturday at 2pm, given by Mick Quinn.
There will be a special focus on Persse’s Distillery, which once employed more than 100 people and sold its product worldwide. A rare bottle of whiskey from Persse’s auctioned for £100,000 at Christie’s of London.
