Oranmore Railway Station will open to passengers in July, Iarnród Éireann has confirmed, in a move that will be welcomed by commuters, business, and tourism.
Construction began on the new 174 metre platform and a 150 bay car park last year and both are soon to be completed. The new station will serve the east of the city and county.
The news has been welcomed by Independent Galway West TD Noel Grealish and county councillor Jim Cuddy.
“The new station could remove a considerable amount of traffic congestion from the city centre at peak times,” they said. “It will be welcomed by businesses and the tourism industry and will increase accessibility and provide a viable alternative for commuters, all of which is good for the local economy.”
