Bish seal successful season with emphatic win

St Joseph’s College, Galway enjoyed an emphatic victory over Roscommon CBS

to claim this year’s u-14 Connacht Rugby Schools crown in Ballyhaunis recently.

The Bish, having defeated a much-fancied Jes team by 20 points in the semi-final, were favourites for the title against Roscommon CBS in their first Connacht final at this level.

The Bish, led by Jordan Fogarty, were quick off the mark with Ewan Heapes side-stepping two players before sprinting over for a try in the opening minutes.

Sean Kilmartin’s pace posed problems throughout for the Roscommon lads and when a looping pass from Max Payton reached him on the halfway line he ran it in for the second try, giving the Galway school a 10-0 half-time lead.

CBS hit back after the restart when their pack drove over for a try, but thereafter the Bish reclaimed the initiative. Max Payton supplied Kilmartin who grabbed his second try and Heapes converted before claiming the fourth try and also his second from a breakaway late in the game.
