Toyota hybrid vehicle global sales top five million

Global sales of Toyota Motor Corporation’s hybrid vehicles topped the five million unit mark at the end of March.

Reaching 5.125 million units, TMC sells 19 different hybrid passenger car models and one plug-in hybrid model in approximately 80 countries and regions around the world.

Toyota says it is committed to enhancing its product line-up even further and increasing the number of countries and regions where it sells hybrid vehicles.

Between now and the end of 2015, TMC will launch a total of 18 new hybrid models worldwide, including one fuel cell vehicle.

Toyota calculates that as of March 31, 2013, TMC hybrid vehicles have resulted in approximately 34 million fewer tonnes of CO2 emissions than would have been emitted by petrol-powered vehicles of similar size and driving performance.

TMC also estimates that its hybrid vehicles have saved approximately 1.2 billion litres of petrol compared to the amount used by petrol-powered vehicles of similar size.
