Alan McMonagle’s Psychotic Episodes

ALAN MCMONAGLE, the Sligo born, Galway based, short story writer, will launch his new book Psychotic Episodes, as part of the Cúirt festival.

The stories feature a troubled boy who convinces himself he can fly; an elderly women who turns into a man; two adolescents’ unusual list of ideal women; and a childless couple given their nephew for the day.

“My characters are separate, apart from the mainstream,”says Alan. “They operate on the margins, coming at life from an angle; perhaps their lot is a slow awareness they may not be able to control the confusing extensions to the landscapes they inhabit.”

Alan has received awards for his work from the Professional Artists’ Retreat in Yaddo (New York ), the Fundación Valparaiso (Spain ), the Banff Centre for Creativity (Canada ), and the Arts Council of Ireland.

Psychotic Episodes, published by Arlen House, will be launched on Saturday at 12 noon in the Town Hall Theatre Bar. The guest speaker is Pat McMahon. Admission is free and all are welcome. See www.alanmcmonagle.com
