Jobseekers get ‘big break’ with Ros na Rún

With the Irish unemployment rate remaining stubbornly high at 14 per cent, Ros na Rún in association with Gréasán na Méan aims to assist job seeking Irish speakers in accessing the growing Irish language media industries. Through a one day intensive acting workshop on Wednesday May 1 budding actors have the opportunity to get their ‘Big Break’.

Taking place in the Connemara Coast Hotel from 9.30am to 4pm, the training course will focus on acting for the camera. Through this taster course participants will undertake the journey from script to screen under the tutelage of a director. On completion of the one day workshop, 10 participants will be chosen to progress to the next stage of training, involving a two day ‘Introduction to Acting’ course.

“We currently have over 140 staff working on Ros na Rún and we are always on the look out for fresh talent to join our growing team.

“Once entrants have fluent Irish and an interest in acting, we can offer the training and support to kick start their career.” said Cóilín Ó Scolaí, the series producer of Ros na Run,” The job market is tough for everyone at the moment and if we can help in creating employment through utilising the expertise we have on site, then it’s a mutually beneficial activity!”

Entrants must be over the age of eighteen, with fluent Irish and currently seeking employment. On completion of the two day Introduction to Acting course, successful candidates will be placed on the Ros na Rún actors database.
