A dog adoption day will take place at Trusty Pet Pals dog daycare centre in Briarhill Business Park on Saturday April 20 from 12 noon to 4pm. The adoption day, organised by local dog charity MADRA, situated in Connemara, invites parties interested in adopting a dog, to discuss with the MADRA team and to meet some of the dogs and pups that are currently looking for their new homes. Those looking to foster a dog or puppy should also attend and speak to a MADRA representative.
Commenting on the upcoming event, MADRA chairperson Edel Comerford urges people interested in this initiative to book in advance of the event in order to arrange a home check. “If you are thinking about adopting a dog at this event then please contact us well in advance to arrange a home check. We will not re-home a dog without first visiting the home of a new owner, so getting this out of the way beforehand will really speed up the process and could mean that you will be bringing your new dog home with you that day.”
Potential dog owners interested in meeting a specific dog from the Connemara based shelter should contact MADRA in advance as only a selection of the dogs will be there on the day.
Previous adoption days organised by MADRA have resulted in some very successful matches, with almost 30 dogs finding new homes at the February adoption day. MADRA is a Connemara based dog rescue and adoption group dedicated to finding new homes for dogs of all shapes, sizes, and breeds. Last year MADRA rescued 515 adult dogs and 204 pups and has helped to reduce the county Galway put-to-sleep rate from 83 per cent in 2005 to 14 per cent in 2012.
