Innovative new drama from THEATREclub

“SO THEATRE is a safe, middle-class thing, and young people think it's boring? THEATREclub beg to disagree. They’re taking conventional notions of theatre and shoving them back in our faces.

So said the Irish Independent of THEATREclub and its new show The Family which will be performed in the Town Hall Theatre on Tuesday at 8pm.

The Family explores how the traditional family unit was once considered a bedrock of Irish life, how that idea has been exploded, and where notions of the family may go in future. The play was devised by the cast - Shane Byrne, Gemma Collins, Gerard Kelly, Lauren Larkin, Louise Lewis, and Barry O’Connor - along with Grace Dyas and Doireann Coady. It is directed by Grace Dyas.

The play has enjoyed considerable acclaim with The Irish Times saying: “At this time of societal questioning and re-evaluation that seems laden with significance, THEATREclub are breaking down those fundamentals in the hope we might build them back up again.”

The Family is the first part of THEATREclub’s trilogy about the social history of Ireland. Heroin (2010 ) and History (set to premiere in late 2013 ) are the other two parts.

Tickets are €18/15 and available from the Town Hall on 091 - 569777 and www.tht.ie
