More than one thousand DAS payments still outstanding in Galway

More than 1,000 farmers in Galway, who applied to the Disadvantaged Areas Scheme, have not received any payment, a situation a local TD has called “disgraceful”.

Fianna Fáil agriculture spokesperson and Galway West TD Éamon Ó Cuív said that figures he has received through a series of parliamentary questions show 1,097 Galway farmers have not received the money they are owed.

“There is no excuse for leaving farmers in Galway waiting since September,” he said. “These farmers are dependent on this support and cannot wait for months to get the money they are entitled to.”

Dep Ó Cuív has accused the Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney of “mismanagement” on the issue.

“The retrospective stocking density requirements imposed by the Minister is causing protracted delays in the disadvantaged areas payment,” he said. “The Minister should not have allowed this to happen. I am calling on him to immediately ensure all outstanding DAS payments in Galway, and the 8,000 outstanding payments nationally, are processed immediately
