New Tuam mothers group set up

A new Co Galway group involving mothers providing support to other mothers has been set up by the HSE’s public health department.

The Tuam Networking Mothers Group is for mothers with babies under six months and will be launched later this month. It will meet every subsequent Friday at 10.30am at the Ard Ri Hotel.

The group encourages a sense of community by connecting local mothers through various group meetings so that they can exchange information, find out about local resources, ask for advice and support one another.

These informal and convenient meet-ups will also enable local mothers to develop long lasting and supportive friendships.

“No matter how many books expectant mothers may read nothing fully prepares them for the reality of motherhood,” says a HSE spokesperson. “Motherhood is great but it can also be tough what with the long nights, lots of questions and the endless amounts of washing and cleaning. From figuring out which nappy or baby food brand is the best, to an easy place to have lunch with baby in tow, the mothers in Tuam need a network of support and communication. The Tuam Networking Mothers Group will provide mothers with an instant community to help make life as a family convenient, efficient and above all enjoyable.”

Whether you’re a new or seasoned mum, a working or stay at home mum the Tuam Networking Mothers Group may be the group for you. The meet-ups range from informal “drop in” playgroups, to larger family events, to mums’ nights out - no kids allowed. Ultimately, the networking group aims to build long-lasting relationships between mothers and children that extend past the organised meetings.

If you are a new mum and are interested in meeting other mums in the Tuam area telephone the Tuam Health Centre at (093 ) 37200 or check out tuammums on Facebook.
